/u/adamo points out that even if you smash an ethernet card, it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get unique GUIDs from using it’s MAC address to generate GUIDs, as some companies had duplicated MAC addresses on their cards.

/u/hwayne points out in a collection of comments that based on the interviews he’s been doing, most engineers in other fields, when they cross over into software, consider software to be real engineering. I find this to be very interesting, as it runs counter to what most people inside software engineering have to say about it.
